What is your admissions process?
Lambda is your go-to for great hires – and that starts with our admissions process. We have a rigorous application process.
All Lambda School students are required to complete a series of aptitude exams from Criteria Corp. These are exams often used in employment and a high score usually correlates with success in school and when job searching. In addition to the aptitude tests our applicants must complete a coding challenge as a way to introduce prospective applicants to the basics of their chosen course. We offer precourse work to supplement an applicant's learning, especially if they struggled on the coding challenge.
Applicants are also required to provide proof of having completed secondary education. For students who are unable to show this documentation, an ability to benefit test is an option.

Our instructors have worked as engineers at Apple, NASA, Google, as well as large contracting firms and startups in web development, design, gaming, data science, and others.
Josh Knell, Director, Instruction and Student Readiness, has 15 years of practical web development and higher education instruction experience. During his tenure as a software engineer, Josh worked on enterprise projects for PepsiCo, Campbell's Soup, Under Armour and Walmart. Before joining Lambda, Josh was the CTO of bestcompany.com. Additionally, Josh has been teaching web development as an adjunct instructor at Utah Valley University for 7 years.

How are you different from a bootcamp?
Lambda School is an intensive, six-month full-time program comprised of 40-hour weeks and curriculum informed by hiring managers. Our curriculum prepares students to be valuable members of your team from day one.
We require students to achieve 100% mastery of the material and have 95% live class attendance in order to graduate. The program is divided into 24 weeks of instruction and another 8 weeks of Job Search with job search trainers and program management to ensure that all Lambda School students have the personal and professional skills to be strong team members. Our curriculum combined with the rigorous application process ensures that we can consistently provide our hiring partners with prospective hires that know how to build and ship products, and have plenty of hands-on experience working on projects alone and in teams.

Are you accredited?
Lambda School is not accredited. However, Lambda School is currently approved by a number of states, including California and Texas, and exempt in several others. Lambda School is continuously working with regulators and legislators nationwide to ensure compliance across the country.
How do you track student progress?
The Lambda model works because it works differently, focusing on total mastery of a curriculum created by industry leaders. Progression through the school requires 100% mastery of the material.
Here’s how it works: each module students are expected to learn 2-5 discrete skills or objectives. At the end of every sprint they are assessed for their mastery of each objective. Students can choose to repeat content until they have full mastery of their current sprint

Where are Lambda School students located?
The majority of Lambda School students are located in the United States. We have students in all 50 states, as well as a few cohorts in Europe and Africa.
In addition to strong geographic distribution, we have a large population of students who are willing to relocate for new jobs.

Do your students have college degrees, prior experience, etc?
Both the Lamba model and our student cohorts are unlike anything or anyone else out there. There is no one typical student profile. Some students come to Lambda straight from high school, others make a pivot away from traditional college and university programs and others come for their second or third career acts. We’ve trained everyone from army veterans, NCAA athletes and stay at home parents returning to the workforce to be top notch developers. Half of all students already have a bachelor’s degree, and many have advanced degrees.

What do your students learn in the Full Stack Web Development program?
This program teaches the foundations of web development and computer science. Students learn full-stack development with some of the most in-demand technologies like JavaScript, HTML, CSS, Node, React, Python, Express, and SQL. In the Computer Science portion of the curriculum our students learn algorithms, data structures, computer architecture, and other fundamental concepts.
Once students have completed their core track of instruction they then attend Lambda Labs. In Labs, students have the opportunity to build a real product that solves a real user problem. Students work on cross-functional teams of web developers, and data scientists where they learn how to work together to ship the finished product.

In our Data Science program, students acquire the skills they need to understand and explain real-world situations with data. Throughout this program, students learn Python, SQL, Data Storytelling, Statistics & Modeling, Machine Learning, Linear Algebra, Databases, Big Data, and Visualization.

In our iOS Development program, students learn Swift, Objective-C, UI Design, Networking (as part of asynchronous programming), Core Data (database design), Unit and UI Testing, Architectural Design Patterns, Custom Controls & Programmatic UI, and Working with Media. In the Computer Science portion of the curriculum, they learn algorithms, data structures, and other fundamental concepts.

Do you graduate students on the traditional academic calendar or some other cadence?
We graduate students every month, so we have a constant pipeline of candidates. We have about 80 new graduates each month, as of February 2020.
What is the expected salary for your students?
We expect them to be compensated competitively for their level in the market. The exact number varies widely based on location and skill. Our nationwide average is close to $75K.
Can we pay off a student’s ISA for them?
Yes. That’s an effective way to enhance a student’s job offer. If you intend to do that, we will put you in touch with our finance team directly to work out details.
How does Lambda School’s payment model work for students?
After a student is accepted to Lambda School, they have options for tuition payment: (1) $30k upfront, (2) signing an Income Share Agreement (ISA) if they do not live in California or (3) signing a Retail Installment Contract (RIC) if they do live in California. If they choose to use an ISA, they will only pay Lambda back once they have landed a job making at least $50k, with total payments capped at $30k. Students in California who sign a RIC will be afforded many of the same benefits that the ISA offers, excluding some terms like the termination of the ISA after 24 payments or 60 months of deferred payments. Students can pay upfront tuition if they prefer, but the majority of students choose the ISA.
Companies that hire a Lambda School graduate have no obligation or involvement in the ISA or RIC, unless they choose to pay off a student’s ISA or RIC as a benefit.
